I am a wine lover, if not an enthusiast. And starting the series with wine is more than appropriate, at least in my head it is.
International Albarino Day: August 1, 2021
This year, International Albarino Day is being celebrated on August 1.
Albarino Wine Fiesta has been in existence since the late 19th century. It’s a one-week festival celebrated in Spain. The first week of August is observed in Spain as this fiesta and I’m not surprised – Spanish people know how to party!
Albarino is a Spanish variety of grape. But eventually, America’s vineyard also started growing Albarino and thus, the first Sunday of August is celebrated as International Albarino Day to appreciate this wine globally.
What is Albarino?
For those still not initiated with Albarino wine, let me give you a quick review. It’s a white wine variety made with Albarino grapes. This white is very smooth, light and crispy and incredible hints of some ripe summer fruits (think peaches, apricot and pineapple) and some floral notes. It’s semi-dry.
The best food pairing with this one is sea food. A medium done grilled Salmon or some calamari and shrimps – I love Albarino with them!
How to Celebrate International Albarino Day?
- Pop a bottle of Albarino (or any other water, really)
- Learn about sustainable winegrowing practice
- Visit a vineyard in your region!
- Mix an Alberino cocktail – mimosas with a twist!
What do you think is going to be the next day?
