Why a Shandy?

As the sun beats down and temperatures soar, icy-cold drinks become a necessity rather than a luxury. Enter the humble iced tea – a versatile beverage that's perfect for spiking with a splash of lighter alcohol. While some may liken today's concoction to a classic Summer Shandy, I assure you, it's a flavor-packed treat that's sure to delight your taste buds. And if you're feeling adventurous, why not try it with a Summer Shandy and let me know how it turns out?

Brewing the Perfect Iced Tea

As an Indian, black tea is a staple in my household, making it the perfect base for our sweet beer cocktail. While brewing a fresh cup of iced tea is a breeze, I've included a simple recipe below for those who need a refresher. And while I'm sticking to the classic lemon flavor for today's cocktail, feel free to experiment with seasonal fruits like mango or peaches for a fun twist!

Recipe: Sweetest Beer Cocktail

Beer cocktails are not only fun to make but incredibly refreshing, making them a must-try for any summer gathering. The key to this particular concoction lies in the ratio – for the perfect balance of flavors, I recommend a 2:1 ratio of sweet tea to beer. Trust me, it's a winner!

Drink responsibly. Don’t drink and drive.

Sweet Tea Lager

Ingredients

  • For Sweet Tea

  • 1 Tea Bag (preferably black tea)

  • 100 ml water

  • 2 teaspoon sugar

  • 2/3 cup ice

  • For the Cocktail

  • 100 ml Lager (IPA works well too)

  • 1/2 tablespoon lemon

  • 1 cup ice

  • 1 lemon wheel (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. We will first make the freshly brewed tea. Bring the water to boil and add the teabag.

  2. Let it sit for 2-3 minutes and quickly pour it over ice. Wait till all the ice has dissolved and the iced tea has doubled in its volume.

  3. In a tall glass, pour the tea and the beer.

  4. Add the lemon juice. Give a light stir and garnish with a lemon wheel!

Notes

  1. You can use packaged iced tea.

  2. You can adjust the sugar accordingly.

  3. I used Budweiser Light Platinum because of the sweet finish. Light beers give a better result than dark ones.

  4. You can try other flavours with summer fruits like mangoes and peaches.

As you raise your glass to celebrate National Iced Tea Day, why not take it up a notch with this delightful sweet beer cocktail? With its refreshing blend of iced tea and light beer, it's the perfect way to beat the heat and toast to summer in style. So gather your ingredients, mix up a batch, and raise a toast to good times and great drinks!
